November 10th Update

We just had a fantastic morning meeting

We all welcomed Mrs. Mish to the fun! She and her husband are thrilled to be coming along!

We took another round of the names quiz. The average score for our whole group as a 66.5%. We need to get this raised! Please take the time to learn everyone’s first and last names. Yes, spelling counts! Our top scorers were: Liz (100%!), Alyssa (92.5%), Sako (92.5%), and Linnea (90%). Let’s get the average to a 95%!!

I shared that one itinerary update is on the way out we’ll have a day to explore Hollywood and on the way back we’ll have a day to be at/around the beach near Venice or Santa Monica.

We spent time looking over and discussing the packing list and gear recommendation pages, both of which are on the Portal Page.

October 19th Update

The second trip payment of $2,267 was due on 10/17. If you haven’t sent it in already, please make sure it gets to the Business Office this week. You can make payments over the phone by calling Karen Yarra at (413) 529-3289 in our Business Office.

Our next scheduled trip meeting (10/27) is cancelled. (I will most likely be out all next week.)

–> In place of that meeting you are all expected to share a meal with your accountability partner that day. At that connection point please discuss how you’d like to receive support before and during the trip as well as any other questions you may have for each other. Also, spend some time thinking about what each of you would like to do for the trip talent show! Email me your talent presentation ideas after you meet! 🙂

Our next trip morning meeting will be on Thursday, 11/10 at 7:30am in the PA Room. Sako and Lucy will be giving their presentations at the meeting.

The following people have yet to send me their presentation topic picks. Please do so by the end of this week: Chris, Parker, Olivia, David, June, Linnea

During the second trimester we will continue to have morning meetings on blue Thursday mornings at 7:30am in the PA Room. Meetings will run for at most 30 minutes.

Two events to make sure you have on your calendar:

Sunday, January 8th, 2023: Fun day trip all around the area! We will depart at 7:45am from Reed and return at around 6:30pm.

Sunday, February 12th, 2023 @ 6 to 7pm: Packing meeting in the Dodge Room in Reed! Everyone must show up fully packed for the trip! Family and friends are welcome to attend! It’s super fun!

October 13th Morning Meeting

144 days until we depart… but who’s counting? 🙂

Here’s what we covered at this morning’s meeting:

Zoe and Lucy gave great presentations on Maori Art and Queenstown. Links to their slides are on the portal page.

Everyone took the names quiz. The average score for our whole group as a 61%. We need to get this raised! Please take the time to learn everyone’s first and last names. Yes, spelling counts! Our top scorers were: Liz (95%), Alyssa (93%), and Sako (90%).

We took a look at the newly posted trip packing list and gear recommendations pages. Both of those pages are on the portal page. Everyone needs to look over both pages and let me know ASAP if they have any questions.

Everyone now has an accountability buddy. Work with this person. Get to know them. Support each other.

A few people still need to choose their presentation topics and send them to me. Again, all of this information is on the portal page. I will assign topics to people who don’t make their choices by tomorrow night.

September 29th Morning Meeting

We just had another awesome morning meeting!

158 days until we leave! Wow!

PHOTO

Here’s what we covered:

  1. We talked about technology on the trip and everyone was encouraged to try going 6 hours? 12 hours? 24 hours? without using their cell phone.
  2. We chatted about clothing on the trip. Key topics included not wearing jeans, only wearing sweatpants on planes and while sleeping, as well as avoiding cotton. Bring clothes that are easy to wash in sinks is helpful. Everyone will be required to bring a pair of convertible pants that can zip off into shorts.
  3. The day trip around Western, MA is coming up, but the date isn’t set yet. On this day, most likely a Sunday, we’ll spend the day doing various fun activities around the area to bond, be social, and test out traveling together.
  4. I went over the projected departure and return times. Right now it looks like we’ll be leaving campus around 1am on Monday, March 6th and returning to campus around 9am on Tuesday, March 21st. Resident students will not be able to stay on campus between when school closes on Friday, March 3rd and our departure. Start making plans now.
  5. I emphasized that everyone should speak to their teachers well before the trip about potential homework that’s going to be assigned over March break. Try to get HW done early! The earlier you speak to your teachers the better!
  6. In small groups and then as one large group we talked about how we can support each other in stressful situations, how we can be good travelers, and what are some of our favorite things to do locally.

Homework due by our next morning meeting:

  1. Pick a topic to present on during one of our morning meetings. This can cover anything we experience on the trip or some piece of the history of culture we’ll be surrounded by. The itinerary is a good place to look for inspiration. Topics will be give on a rolling basis so email me as soon as you think of something!
  2. Everyone needs to pair up with someone on the trip to be accountability partners with. You’ll work with this person to complete trip tasks, talk things out, and be general supports for each other before and during the trip!

Scuba people: We’re in the Williston pool this Sunday for our second and last pool session! Make sure to arrive by 8:15 so we can get in the pool right at 9am. It’s looking likely we’ll have all of our skills done by Noon, but there is a chance we may need to go a bit longer than that.

Our next morning meeting is on Thursday, 10/13 at 7:30am in the PA room. Make sure you are in the room and seated by 7:25am. Please make sure to eat breakfast either before or after the meeting. We will conclude by 8am.
